Little Girl New Life

Our mission is to provide human services, which reflect Gospel values and the Church's commitment to preserve, enhance and support human life with a special concern for the poor, the hungry and the homeless of Acadiana.

Services

Lafayette Catholic Service Centers provides comprehensive human services that are dedicated to promoting human dignity. Our services range from meeting the most basic of needs, to transitioning the hungry, homeless and impoverished from critical situations to lives of self-sufficiency.

Operating a soup kitchen, an emergency financial services office, a licensed child care and six shelter/housing programs for homeless men, women, children and veterans, Lafayette Catholic Service Centers reach thousands in need each year.

Organization

Lafayette Catholic Service Centers (LCSC) is a private not for profit corporation operating under the IRS Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) with tax exempt status. LCSC is controlled by a Board of Directors under the authority of the Diocese of Lafayette, with daily operations conducted under the management of an Executive Director, under the guidance and direction of a Managing Council.

History

Lafayette Catholic Service Centers was founded in 1973 within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lafayette by the late Monsignor Alexander Sigur. Initially providing limited services of rent and utility assistance to needy individuals and families, the program was later named for its beloved founder, Msgr. Sigur, in 1984. In 1983, St. Joseph Diner was created and began serving free lunch meals to the hungry at its original location on West Simcoe Street.
LCSC's housing and shelter programs began in 1987 with the opening of St. Joseph Emergency Shelter for Men. These programs have expanded significantly, today including emergency and transitional housing for men, women and children, and veterans' housing for both men and women, providing shelter to nearly 120 adults and over 100 children on any given night.

In 1995, Lafayette Catholic Service Centers entered into a valuable partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center to offer free healthcare to the uninsured, poor and homeless. In 2003, St. Bernadette Clinic began occupying a portion of the Bishop O'Donnell Building. In 2009, the medical clinic expanded to include a free dental clinic.
